Throughout the year, we have a number of chances to reassess our progress, modify our plans, and resolve to better ourselves in various ways.  These can be considered as times for renewal.

The start of a new year is such a time.  So are birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and changes of season.

Now is a particularly appropriate time.  It is a time when many are celebrating Easter or Passover.  It is a change of season – and a particularly welcome change for those of us who live in parts of the northern hemisphere that have experienced a particularly harsh winter.

I encourage you to take a little time out for self-examination.  Which of your achievements over the past year have made you particularly proud?  What is still unfinished?  Which goals have to be modified or given up so that you don’t unproductively agonize over something that your not likely to work on anyway?  And what personal changes do you want to proactively start implementing?

Think of this season as a time for renewal.  How do you want to be different by the next change of seasons?

At The Mental Health Gym we emphasize growth and change.  If you’ve been following us for awhile, you know that our emphasis is on growth and change in three main areas:  health and fitness; intellectual functioning; and social – particularly if some of your social involvements result in benefiting others.

As is the case with active members of any gym, The Mental Health Gym members should always take pride in what we’ve achieved – while at the same time raising the bar in order to do even better.

If you make it part of your mission to wisely and regularly utilize times for renewal, you will dramatically increase your chances of maintaining your emotional fitness.
