You can be certain that others will take more seriously your commitment to change if you actually have something tangible written down to support that commitment.

If you go food shopping, you have a better chance of conscientiously purchasing your desired groceries if you come prepared with a shopping list. You should expect nothing less of yourself when you pursue your goals – which is sort of like a shopping list for the rest of your life.
